How we help make Dyke House Beautiful by recycling our used coffee grinds

Each and every time one of our customers order a Coffee they are helping making Dyke House Beautiful.

This is because our used coffee grinds recycled and donated to community spaces across the Dyke House area

They are placed inside the beautiful flower beds across the Dyke House Area, which are planted with the support of Big Local and planted and cared for by The Annexe and the local residents of the Dyke House area to make the area beautiful.

Why?

Coffee is a popular hot drink which is loved by many.

Often Coffee Shops simply bin the grounds left behind after coffee is brewed but at LilyAnne’s we don’t we recycle it.

We never throw our coffee grinds out that’s because we can do so much with them by sharing them with the community.

Especially when it comes to sharing them with people to use them around their home and garden.

Fertilize Your Garden

Coffee Grounds are perfect to fertilize your garden, Most soil does not contain the essential nutrients needed for optimal plant growth.

As plants grow they take in nutrients from the soil, and leave the area depleted.

Therefore the garden’s need to be fertilized to ensure the plants have the nourishment they need to grow.

Coffee grounds contain a number of key minerals for plant growth and have within them nitrogen, calcium, potassium, iron, phosphorus, magnesium and chromium.

Coffee Grounds also attract worms which are good for the garden.

All you have to do is simply sprinkle them onto the soil around the plant.

Repelling insects and pests

Coffee Grounds can be highly toxic to insects because they contain caffeine and diterpenes because of this they naturally repel bugs.

They are most successful at repelling Mosquitos, fruit flies and beetles.

The best way to keep them away is to sprinkle the coffee grounds into outdoor seating areas or within small bowls near to the area you want to keep the bugs away from

Sprinkling them near your plants will keep slugs and snails away.

Fleas

Not many people know by fleas hate coffee, especially coffee grinds. If you are looking for a natural treatment rather than using harsh chemicals on your pets it could be wise trying coffee grinds, they don’t always work but they could save you lots of cash if they do work.

Coffee Grinds are a very good and natural way of treating your pet who has managed to catch fleas, rather than spending a lot of money on treatment.

Fleas hate coffee, therefore, you are able to use coffee grounds as a natural treatment. You simply rub the grounds into your pet’s fur after shampooing then rinse them off and allow your pet to dry as usual.

This will also add smoothness and shine to your pet’s coat If the Coffee grounds are not effective it would be recommended that you use a more supermarket product.

Neutralize Odors
Coffee grounds contain nitrogen, which helps eliminate a foul-smelling sulfur gas from the air when it’s combined with carbon.
Which basically means the coffee grounds absorb and eliminates odours.
All you need to do is place a bowl of coffee grounds in the fridge or freezer to neutralize odours from spoiled or fragrant foods.
There are many more creative ideas when it comes to recycling your used coffee grinds, At LilyAnne’s We will ensure our grinds are always recycled and re-used to ensure the community gains from these.
